Bam and Beyond: Building Alliances Between Iranian and Iranian Diaspora NGOs, Universities, and Private Sectors

9:00-9:45 - Registration and Breakfast

10:00 - Start of seminar Opening remarks by Narges Bajoghli and Nikoo Paydar (IAAB), Baquer Namazi (Hamyaran)

10:30-12:30 - Session 1: Introductions, Experiences, and Lessons Learned

Session Moderator: Narges Bajoghli

Introductions

Each attendee will briefly report on the work that they (their organization) have done since the earthquake.  They will present their challenges, achievements, and lessons learned.

Roundtable Discussion

Questions to be discussed include:

  • What types of institutional arrangements need to be put in place for future work?
  • What were your challenges specifically, and how can these be avoided in the future?
  • How can we encourage work across sectors?  And, across borders?
  • How many of the NGOs present collaborated with each other, or with others not present, after the earthquake?  How can we encourage more communication and collaboration amongst us?
  • Are the projects that you are working on (or supporting) sustainable prjects?
  • For organizations of the diaspora doing (or supporting) reconstruction work in Bam, what measures are you taking to ensure sustainability of your project in Bam?
  • Review and select areas of cooperation based on the needs and capacities in Bam.  Brainstorm ways to enlist partners and solid supporters for such projects.

1:50-3:30 - Session 2

Breakout Sessions

Groups will be assigned and each group will have a list of predetermined questions to discuss and brainstorm.  The groups will then present their findings during the next session.

  • Room 1, Group A
  • Room 2, Group B
  • Room 3, Group C

**15 minute break** Light refreshments served

3:45-5:15 - Session 3: De-brief

  • Session Moderator: Nikoo Paydar
  • Each group (A, B, C) will have 15 minutes to present the findings of their group.

Conclusions: 30 minutes will be allotted to discuss the results as a whole and come to conclusions regarding mechanisms to implement following this seminar.  A list of questions (to be handed out during this session) will help guide this discussion.
